Caught a flu bug during journey via Greyhound Bus to Reno Nevada?

Timeglass Journal

Jim Lantern – in Reno Nevada

7:00 a.m. Pacific Time – Thursday 7 May 2015

I had a slight fever with stomach ulcer pain Tuesday night. I knocked it down with Tylenol and then slept well after that. I felt fairly good Wednesday morning.

Low fever returned Wednesday evening, with other head cold and flu symptoms, plus a sore throat. More ulcer pain but not as severe – however it’s now a bleeding stomach ulcer.

I’m now wondering if perhaps I caught something during the trip on one of the Greyhound buses or in one of the greyhound stations, or at one of the rest stops where passengers got beverages and food.

I suspect it first hit me late night of Sunday May 3 into early morning Monday May 4, when Greyhound put stranded customers at an EconoLodge in Salt Lake City when 3 hours behind schedule. I began to feel ill as we were shuttled over to the motel about 2:30: a.m. MT. I did feel better on the next bus for Salt Lake City to Reno.

I’ve had ulcer pain and asthma since arriving Monday night May 4 here in Reno, but none of the other symptoms until yesterday evening.

Very rough night last night. The gas is off for heat here for the warm season. Although the days are warm enough the nights are still cold. Normally not a problem for me, but the cold air made me feel worse last night. A hot shower made me feel better – ended the chills, then I kept warm enough under bed’s thick cover. Very comfortable bed. I took Tylenol, and Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine.

I am slightly better this morning. I’m going to get some fresh hot coffee at the market across from the city bus terminal just a block away – short walk. 41F at 7:00 a.m. PT with wind N at 9. There’s a 60% chance of rain this morning. Forecasted high for today is 58F, then 40F low tonight.

This will be a day of rest and recovery. Try to keep warm. See if there are any good movies on TV…

7:40 a.m. PT: When I departed market with coffee, I walked out into a kind of rain-slush-sleet. Got me during the short walk home. None falling now. I wasn’t expecting this kind of weather hear now.

7:45 a.m. PT: Sun shining through break in clouds now. Weather changes that fast here. My window faces sunrise, so this should help to warm up my room if it lasts long enough. On solar heat now.

7:55 a.m. PT: Coffee is making me feel much better, and isn’t irritating my stomach ulcer. Looks like there will be some good movies on AMC and TCM today.
