Remembering TV series Here Come the Brides

“…And you pray that you will find
Someone warm and sweet and kind…”

I wrote a tribute article a few years ago on an anniversary of the series. I’ve decided to revisit it now after finding a restored excellent tribute video…

Original opening credits and theme with vocals…

“Here Come the Brides is an American comedy Western series from Screen Gems that aired on the ABC television network from September 25, 1968 to April 3, 1970.” – Wikipedia.

Born in 1956, I watched it from age 12 to age 14…

I had a crush on actress Bridget Hanley. “Bridget Ann Elizabeth Hanley (born February 3, 1941) is an American actress, known for her starring and supporting roles in TV comedy, western, adventure and drama programs, including Candy Pruitt on the western dramedy Here Come the Brides.” – Wikipedia.

…She was age 27-29 during the series.

During 7th grade in school, a girl who sat to my right in English class had the same face, hairstyle and color, as Hanley, the look I’ve always liked, and so I had a bit of a crush on her too!

“…When you find your own true love
You will know it
By her smile, by the look in her eye…”

Also worth noting, 7th Grade English was a bit of a turning point for me. That’s when I first took an interest in creative writing and wrote my first science fiction short story – involving time travel as well as space travel.

“The series was loosely based upon the Mercer Girls project, Asa Mercer’s efforts to bring civilization to old Seattle in the 1860s by importing marriageable women from the east coast cities of the United States, where the ravages of the American Civil War left those towns short of men.” – Wikipedia. By comparison, Seattle has a shortage of women.

Of interest to Star Trek fans, actor Mark Lenerd, who played Spock’s father, stared in this series as Aaron Stempel.
