Trump and Taxes

Trump and taxes, Trump and taxes,
Go together like a horse and carriage.
This I tell ya, brother, you can’t have one without the other.

…Variation of…

Love and marriage, love and marriage,
Go together like a horse and carriage.
This I tell ya, brother, you can’t have one without the other.

…More like political soup and congress sandwich today.

This version and use of it was more fun…

Now it’s Trump and taxes. I can imagine what Al Bundy would have to say about it. If the shoe fits?

Or not.

Humor aside, there are several related issues – such as Trump’s tax returns, tax reform, and Russia, as well as connecting health care reform to tax reform.

Like a master illusionist, Trump is using the art of distraction rather than the art of the deal to divert the attention of the American people. More than just the usual “smoke and mirrors” politics. Necessary to try to hide his failed campaign promises.

Even so, one thing he has been getting right and making progress with is in his natural realm of business – to bring businesses back to the United States and as result to create more jobs here. Most people are rightfully more concerned about their next paycheck and surviving day-to-day, than about political issues – especially those that have no direct impact on their daily lives.

As for the issue of Trump releasing his tax returns, I suspect there is great curiosity among most Americans. Like a viscous dog that’s got a hold on one of Trump’s legs, the Democrats will not let go of the tax returns release issue. Or more like sharks they sense blood in the water. Trump’s blood is the flow of money. Who has his money flowed to? Who has his money flowed from? Maybe  tax reform should begin with Trump reform.

From AOL News – 18 April 2017:  Report: Trump’s refusal to release tax returns could unravel tax reform campaign promise

  • According to the New York Times, Trump’s reluctance to release his tax returns, as every president has for the last four decades, appears to be compromising his potential support in the House and the Senate.
  • The Times notes many have expressed reservations about passing tax-related legislation without knowing how it may benefit the Trump family’s vast business empire. That group reportedly includes a unified Democratic resistance and an increasing number of Republicans.

My opinion – my belief: Trump is hiding something. His tax returns would reveal something that might cause some voters to regret having voted for him, and could be serious enough to cause Democrats and Republicans to seek impeaching him. I suspect one possibility is that his tax returns reveal a significant Russian connection, as well as others including China. Further, Russia hacked Republicans as well as Democrats, and possibly acquired Trump’s tax returns – now using them as a threat to release them to reveal information that could cause his ultimate downfall. I doubt he will ever be able to abolish the IRS and establish a better tax system such as perhaps a flat tax. He told the voters what they wanted to hear, rather than what can be done and will be done. I doubt the IRS itself would allow Trump to shut it down, and would likely leak his tax returns to defend itself.
