First episodes of Preacher repeat in marathon on AMC TV today, new episode tonight

Special Posting by Jim Lantern, Lantern Timeglass Journal

Sunday 31 July 2016

I’ve not watched this new series – Preacher – on AMC TV, partly due to a schedule conflict, and partly because AMC left out a key ingredient when promoting it that would have caused me to reconsider. Now with no schedule conflict, and having just discovered the key ingredient that gains my interest, I’ll watch the marathon. Or at least see how far I can get into it before deciding to continue or turn it off. A new episode will be shown tonight at 8:00pm CT, followed by the live review series titled Talking Preacher, at 9:20pm CT – so apparently the new episode is 80 minutes, less whatever amount of time goes to commercials. The new episode tonight is the Season Final.

First episodes of Preacher repeat in marathon on AMC TV today, new episode tonight…

The marathon today begins at 10:15am CT with the first season pilot episode.

Excerpt from Wikipedia...

  • An entity crosses the galaxy and finds its way to Earth, where it inhabits a preacher in Africa who explodes soon after. The same phenomenon is observed at a Satanic Temple in Russia and in a gathering of Scientologists. Meanwhile, in Texas, Jesse Custer, a preacher with a sordid past, begins to lose his faith in his church and debates leaving. Tulip O’Hare, a mysterious woman from Jesse’s violent past propositions him with a job, but Jesse turns her down. Cassidy, an Irish vampire, lands in Texas after a violent episode on a private jet. Jesse has a run-in with the abusive husband of one of his churchgoers and quickly subdues him and his friends, meeting Cassidy in the process. Jesse heads to the church to ask for a sign to continue. The entity appears in the church and inhabits Jesse. Three days later, Jesse awakens and decides not to leave the church, saying he is not quite done yet.

“An entity crosses the galaxy and finds its way to Earth, where it inhabits a preacher in Africa…” is what has gained my attention. Scientologists exploding is no real surprise, since they are basically a classic UFO cult about aliens who will come to Earth and take the top followers (who have paid the most money to the church) to their home planet. But that’s not what this new series is about.

Here’s a video of the opening of the series…

…No surprise, Willie Nelson singing in the background.

So we have a preacher with a questionable background, an alien entity with a questionable background, and along comes an Irish vampire with a questionable background. Might be a good series.

No surprise the church of the preacher is in Texas. A lot of television evangelists there. No doubt (my opinion) most of them are possessed by alien entities.

What does interest me about this new series is the alien entity engaging in what I’ve refereed to as “soul travel” between inhabited planets in other articles. However, rather than being born into Earth human life, the alien entity engages in the equivalent of demonic possession. What does the alien really know of God, Jesus, and Creation? Why the attraction to religious figures upon arrival? Chance? Or choice? Why ultimately join with the preacher – main character of this series?

This could be a nice break from coverage of Election 2016. Except that it causes me to consider the possibility both Hillary Clinton and especially Donald Trump, considering their behavior, might be possessed by dangerous alien entities.
