Ivanka Trump for Vice President? Or Jim Webb on a trans-party ticket with Donald Trump?

It’s a good thing I’m more of a writer than a talker. My jaw fell off, rolled across the floor, and then one of the cats ran outside with it. I might never be able to speak again.

Ivanka Trump for Vice President?! Or, Jim Webb on a trans-party ticket with Donald Trump?!

Now . . . Election 2016 is starting to look a lot more interesting – more fitting for the “interesting times” we live in. Crazy? Might as well go all the way crazy. Can’t make this stuff up. Reality has become more bizarre and stranger than fiction – or even science fiction in the Outer Limits of the Twilight Zone of reality TV shows.

Editorial Article by Jim Lantern, Lantern Timeglass Journal

As the top of the hour was about to arrive – 16 bells this Tuesday 5 July 2016 – I was flipping between CNN, MSNBC, and FNC (Fox News). I was not taken by surprise by a shot between the eyes, and it’s not the merry merry month of May. Suddenly a couple of bangs, the day after the Fourth of July. There has been a great disturbance in The Force, or the space-time continuum.

I had to stop at FNC when something said got my full attention. It was too late in the segment at the end of the hour to hear all of it or to know who said it – they didn’t put his name on the screen – although he looked familiar I don’t recall it. Anyway, he – the guest talking head – said something amazing that I agree with. First he stated how much he likes Jim Webb and how Webb would make a good President even though he is a Democrat – who was a 2016 Democratic presidential candidate before dropping out and leaving the vulture culture race to be just between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. If Jim Webb had remained in the race, and got the nomination, then there is a very good chance I’d vote for him to be our next President. My opinion, Webb is the right kind of Democrat. I’m a Centrist Independent voter, presently leaning in favor of Libertarians or Republicans.

[Update – 5:00pm CT Tuesday 5 July 2016: I could be mistaken, but it appears the same FNC guest just appeared on CNN, and so his identity noted at the bottom of the screen surprised me – considering what he said on FNC about Jim Webb and Ivanka Trump – if it was him who said it. Reince Priebus, RNC Chairman. I’ve read a lot about him in the news, but I’d not yet put a face with the name. See “Special Note” at bottom of this posting.]

Anyway, the guest speaker made the suggestion for Jim Webb to get back into the race by becoming Donald Trump’s Vice President running mate. WOW! I agree! Brilliant idea! Over the years there has been talk of a trans-party ticket to bridge the gap between the far Left Liberal Democrats and the Far Right Conservative Republicans. Such as a Republican President with a Democratic Vice President, or a Democratic President with a Republican Vice President. Donald Trump is the first presidential candidate in recent history with a multi-party history and independent background who might be able to do it. Yes, seriously, I would vote for a Trump-Webb choice on the ballot.

No, I would not vote for Donald Trump if he were to pick Hillary Clinton to be his Vice President running mate on a trans-party ticket (if she were to accept), or if she were to pick Donald Trump to be her Vice President running mate (and if he were to accept). The ultimate jaw-breaker, not just a jaw-dropper, would be if Hillary Clinton were to pick Ivanka Trump to be her Vice President running mate (and if she were to accept). I’d like to see the look on Donald Trump’s face if that were to happen. It would be fall-down roll-on-the-floor funny. It would take steam shovels years to clean up the reaction of the mainstream news media.

Humor aside, Jim Webb is a good idea to be taken seriously.

Excerpts from Wikipedia…

  • James Henry “Jim” Webb, Jr. (born February 9, 1946) is an American politician and author. He has served as a United States Senator from Virginia, Secretary of the Navy, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Counsel for the United States House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and Marine Corps officer.
  • In the private sector he has been an Emmy Award winning journalist, a filmmaker, and the author of ten books. In addition, he taught literature at the United States Naval Academy and was a Fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics. As a member of the Democratic Party, Webb announced on November 19, 2014, that he was forming an exploratory committee to evaluate a run for President of the United States in 2016. On July 2, 2015, he announced that he would be joining the race for the Democratic nomination for President, but stepped down from running in the primaries on October 20, 2015, stating that he was “not comfortable” and “unhappy” with many of the party’s political positions.

…Otherwise, I’m leaning in favor of the Libertarians – Gary Johnson for President, William Weld for Vice President. I would reconsider Donald Trump depending on who he picks to be his Vice President running mate. I favor New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, but Newt Gingrich might be more able to keep Trump down-to-earth and to maintain stability in a Trump administration. I do believe current or former governors of states make the best presidents, such as are the qualifications of Johnson and Weld.

THEN CAME THE ATOMIC EXPLOSION when the FNC host said to the guest the suggestion that maybe Ivanka Trump, Donald trump’s daughter, should be his Vice President running mate. Certainly it would make the job easier for father President Trump. Would it be legal? Isn’t there something in the U.S. Constitution opposing that? To prevent the establishment of an aristocracy, or monarchy, or oligarchy? No? Perhaps not, considering the history of the Kennedy administration and that family. It would make Election 2016 much more interesting. Seriously, I suspect Ivanka Trump can do the job of Vice President better than Donald Trump can do the job of President. Further, whoever Donald Trump picks for Vice President could make the difference between his administration being successful or a total failure.

Excerpts from Wikipedia…

  • Ivanka Marie Trump (/iˈvɑːnkə/, born October 30, 1981) is an American businesswoman, writer, and former model. She is the daughter of former model Ivana Trump and real estate developer Donald Trump. In her role as Executive Vice President of Development & Acquisitions at the Trump Organization, Trump is involved with all aspects of the company’s real estate and hotel management initiatives. Following in the footsteps of fellow celebrity heiress Paris Hilton, she also launched her own namesake brand, Ivanka Trump.
  • Trump started dating the Orthodox Jewish real estate developer Jared Kushner in 2007. She converted to Judaism in July 2009 and took the name Yael. The couple married a few months later.

So, for a few precious minutes, the Fox News Channel became the Funny News Channel. But seriously, would I vote for a Trump-Trump choice on the ballot? Maybe. Then Rod Serling’s ghost will enter the picture and say…

…Or, if Hillary Clinton wins, then some food for thought…

Special Note…

WASHINGTON [20 October 2015] – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement in response to former Senator Jim Webb’s withdrawal from the Democrat presidential primary:

“Former Senator Jim Webb’s decision to drop out of the race is a reflection of how far left the Democrat Party has moved away from the American people,” said Chairman Priebus. “Rather than move to the center following last November’s historic losses, Democrats are racing to the fringe and proposing policies that make President Obama look like a moderate. After all, a self-avowed socialist is the leading candidate of the Democrat Party in key early states and Hillary Clinton is flip flopping on issue after issue just to keep up. With Senator Webb’s departure, it’s clear the Democrat Party is moving further to the extreme left and far away from mainstream Americans.”
