Everybody Knows by Leonard Cohen from the 1994 movie Exotica
Exotica – Wikipedia article – Excerpt…
“Exotica presents a disparate group of characters whose lives are interconnected by the murder of Francis Brown’s (Bruce Greenwood) daughter, with much of the film taking place in a strip club called Exotica. Christina (Mia Kirshner) is an exotic dancer at Exotica, owned by Zoe (Arsinée Khanjian). Eric (Elias Koteas) is the club’s DJ and Christina’s former boyfriend, and is involved in a complex relationship with Zoe, who is carrying his child. Francis is a customer who comes in on alternate evenings and always has Christina—dressed in a schoolgirl uniform—give him a private dance. This inspires Eric’s jealousy….”
I saw this movie at a theater in 1994. Almost exactly 18 years before it, during 1976, I was at the start of my 10-year profession in electronics repair – mainly pinball games, video games, and juke boxes – mainly running service calls at bars (age 18 or older) and clubs (age 21 or older). I had a service call at a bar similar to Exotica, but back then had “go-go dancers” wearing bikinis – more like for swimming than for lingerie – no topless or nude. It was a Saturday about noon. I was repairing a pinball game. One of the dancers, who usually works nights, came in to pick up her paycheck. She looked exactly like Mia Kirshner in Exotica, and had on what appeared to be schoolgirl clothing exactly like Mia Kirshner wore in the movie Exotica. Some of the lunch crowd there for the well-known excellent fresh-made ham sandwiches almost choked on their food and a few jaws hit the tables. One of them asked her to dance in that outfit, and other hearing that then joined the request. She finally agreed to do two songs, and the bartender/manager allowed it. She danced exactly like Mia Kirshner in the two videos I’m including with this posting. She made more money in tips during those two songs than she made from her paycheck and tips for all of the past week!
