Special Report by Jim Lantern
7:30 a.m. PT – Thursday 21 May 2015
I moved from my home city of Wichita Kansas 3 May 2008 to Norman Oklahoma where I lived for 7 years, then moved to Reno Nevada – departed 2 May 2015 arrived night of 4 May 2015.
I recall during childhood (born in 1956), and into adult years, that there has usually been heavy rain during the Memorial Day Holiday weekends in Wichita Kansas – Saturday through Monday – especially on Monday. Many times family plans for the holiday canceled. The weather forecasting was less certain during the 1960’s, and so there was some hope there would be a break in the weather – as we stood at the windows of the house looking out at the heavy rain and rising flood water.
The forecast for Reno Nevada for Memorial Day holiday weekend…
It was to be a sunny and 70F+ warm holiday weekend. That was the forecast until about an hour ago. Now the updated forecast is for 60% chance of PM T-storms Friday, 60% chance of PM T-storms Saturday, cloudy Sunday, and 60% chance of PM showers on Memorial Nay Monday.
60% chance of showers Friday, 80% chance of T-storms Saturday, 80% chance of T-storms Sunday, and 40% chance of AM T-storms on memorial day Monday.
At this hour, 7:30 a.m. PT 9:30 a.m. CT, Norman gets a sunny break today, then 80% chance of rain Friday, 80% chance of T-storms Saturday, 100% chance of T-storms Sunday, 50% chance of scattered T-storms on Memorial day Monday.
I recently received a note in email from a reader in Norman Oklahoma when this current excessive amount of rain began there.
40% chance of scattered T-storms Friday, 80% chance of PM R-storms Saturday, 100% chance of T-storms Sunday, 60% chance of scattered T-storms on Memorial Day Monday, and then 40% to 60% chance of rains and T-storms in long-range 10-day forecast through Saturday May 30 for Dallas area.
