Oklahoma Storms – Live Blogging Event (later today) by Jim Lantern in Norman Oklahoma – 2 blocks east of Oklahoma University football stadium

This posting will be added to, edited, and updated today – mainly during the severe strong storms weather event forecasted to happen between 4:00 p.m. CT and 11:00 p.m. CT here in Oklahoma.

Warmer and wetter weather here. First major severe strong thunderstorms in forecast for today March 25 between 4:00 p.m. CT and 11:00 p.m. CT. Oklahoma City and Norman are in the bullseye of the target area for severe strong t-storms, possible F2 tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds up to 75 mph – with power failures likely.

TWC Forecast Today: High 82F. Becoming windy, scattered strong thunderstorms during afternoon, with large hail. Wind S 20 to 30 mph. 50% chance of rain.

TWC Forecast Tonight: Low 42F. 80% chance of rain. Thunderstorms before midnight, cloudy after midnight. Large hail and strong winds with storms. Wind N at 25 to 35 mph.

LIVE BLOGGING As It Happens:

Live blogging canceled at 5:00 p.m. CT. Storms have failed to develop in central Oklahoma, rain reduced to 50% chance. IF the situation chances, then there will be brief updates.

5:45 p.m. CT: Storms developing on a line from Cordel west of OKC to Tulsa, likely to reach OKC but not likely to spread down to Norman.

6:15 p.m. CT: Storms developing further southwest, moving east, now putting Norman into path. I see lightning to west, hear the thunder.

6:30 p.m. CT: Storm cell began moving northeast instead of east, missed Norman.

6:40 p.m. CT: Line of storm cells continues to expand SW while moving E + NE, Norman Oklahoma in path. No rain yet. Lighting to west. I hear thunder.

6:50 p.m. CT: Significant burst/gust of wind Norman Oklahoma near O.U. football stadium. Straight line winds.

6:55 p.m. CT: Very low clouds blowing back to south at Norman from major storm cell – produced Tornado Warning for Moore, now east of there.

7:00 p.m. CT: Rapid drop in temperature, wind shift to north in Norman. T-storm Warning for Norman, Cleveland County. Tornado damage reported in Moore Oklahoma.

7:20 p.m. CT: Thunder is continuous like train roar with strong wind and heavy rain now, storm cell moving into Norman.

7:25 p.m. CT: Marble size hail 2 blocks east of OU stadium Norman Oklahoma.

7:30 p.m. CT: Suddenly quiet. Wind and rain and hail stopped. Awaiting next wave. Break or thinning of clouds – can almost see sunset.

8:00 p.m. CT: Storm threat to Norman and Oklahoma City has ended. Tornado damage in Moore Oklahoma, and Tulsa Oklahoma has been reported.
